Learn how you can increase the security of your funds with two-factor authentication (2FA)
In today's digital world, keeping your online accounts secure is paramount. One powerful tool that helps protect your online presence is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).
At Bitnob, we take the security of your funds seriously, hence we made it mandatory for every user to set up their 2FA for outbound transactions like withdrawals and transfers. 2FA gives your Bitnob account added security and will reduce the risk of someone doing a transaction you did not authorize.
In this article, we'll break down the concept of 2FA and how to set it up. Let's dive in!
What is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?
Two-Factor Authentication, or 2FA, is an extra layer of security that adds an additional step to the login process for your online accounts. It requires two different types of credentials to verify your identity and grant access. It's like having a double lock on your door, making it harder for unwanted people to break in.
Normally, when you log into your Bitnob account, you either provide a password, use your fingerprint, or use your face ID as the primary way to prove your identity. However, when you want to make outbound transactions you’ll be required to set up 2FA to give you additional security.
In the case of the 2FA you set up for your Bitnob app, you will need to make use of code generators like Google Authenticator or Authy.
The idea behind 2FA is that even if someone manages to figure out or steal your password, they still won't be able to access your account without the second factor. This adds an extra layer of protection, making it much more challenging to access your account.
How to set up 2FA on your Bitnob app
Setting up 2FA is easy. If you’ve not set it up on the Bitnob app, you will be shown a prompt to set up your 2FA.
Once you follow the prompt you will be given an authentication key. This key is what you will input in the authentication app of your choice.
Here’s how to set up your 2FA for your Bitnob:
Step #1: Install an authenticator app. The first step is to download any code generator of your choice such as Google Authenticator or Authy to set up your 2FA. You can search for them on the Google Play Store for Android or App Store for iOS devices.
Step #2: Add an Account. On your Bitnob app, you will see the prompt to setup your 2FA, tap on the button and follow the instructions.
Once you’ve downloaded the code generator or authenticator app, tap on the "+" icon or an "Add Account" option to add your Bitnob account. Usually, there are two options to add an account to your authenticator app. You can either copy the key provided on your Bitnob app and paste it in your authenticator app or you can scan the barcode.
Step #3: Verify the Account. Once you have added your Bitnob account to the authenticator app, you will get a 6-digit code. Copy the code and paste on your Bitnob account. This will activate your 2FA. Subsequently, you will be required to authorize your transactions with the code. Please note that the code changes every few seconds.
Voila! You have successfully set up your 2FA on your Bitnob app!
